Are You Targeting Exact Keyword Phrases?

Keyword Research and Targeting Exact Keyword Phrases

Hi! It’s Mike Liebner here with a quick post sharing a few wise words on keyword research PLUS an invite to a special “Words Equal Money” webinar on My 20th.

Are you targeting TOPICS or are you very specifically going after “exact keyword phrases”???

As I am regularly in contact with a large number or “web publishers”, many of them members of Article Underground, I get to see a lot of the behind the scenes stuff that reveals how people are going after the prize… or in many cases NOT going after the prize.

I know it can be difficult to stay on top of all the tricks and tips us SEO types pass on – but – there is one thing that is so simple yet is often overlooked.

The one thing that I see far too often when I see people posting and going after traffic is that they do not TARGET “EXACT KEYWORD PHRASES”. And to me – that’s a sin!

I mention this because very often I see people doing the usual “click here” or “click for more information” or link to the URL when they should be linking with keywords that will help them get top rankings.

Now – taking that linking thing a step further – I think we should all first and foremost be thinking about how we are targeting a very specific “exact keyword phrase” in our content and when we link to the content.

Because every opportunity that you have to build search engine friendly web pages and get backlinks using a text link to get people to your web pages you MUST target an “exact keyword phrase” and ideally it appears on your web page prominently.

An exact keyword phrase is the “EXACT KEYWORDS” that people use to search for something.

It’s not BROAD MATCH which is FAR FROM EXACT and it’s not even PHRASE MATCH which is a step closer to being EXACT, although “phrase match” may even have extra words.

I am talking’ about “EXACT MATCH”. The exact terms people type in.

Now, I won’t get into this too deep right now – but let me just say that if you want more traffic and top rankings from Google – you need to spend a little time thinking about the words on your web pages and how you are linking to your web pages. Very important stuff.

And if you start thinking in terms of targeting “exact keyword phrases” instead of jumbled clusters of words or broad topics or subjects or themes – you’ll be doing the kind of extra stuff that 90% of the webmasters and bloggers out there are NOT doing. You will have a big edge right out the gate!

Now – some people mistakenly think that I am suggesting you get spammy and go overboard – NO – that’s not it! What I am saying is that if you want to make the big money you need to plan ahead a little and pick a target to go after.

You don’t just blindly do things and expect big returns on your efforts. You need to very specifically work towards a goal. Like getting a number one on Google for an “exact keyword phrase” that has good potential to make you some money!

Part of that process should include doing some Keyword Research.

And not simply finding a list of 1,000 words and then file it away on your hard drive. I’m talking about looking at the research and making decisions about which keyword phrases are most likely to make you some big money. The keywords that have significant volume… the ones that have high average CPC (cost per click) bids and so forth.

If you go after the highest volume and most in demand “exact keyword phrases” and you build your pages around them and link to them the right ways – you have a fantastic chance of hitting it big!

OK – so I hope that helps! If you find this kind of thing interesting – then you will definitely want to join me for a special webinar on Keyword Research this Thursday May 20, 2010 at 5 PM EST.

I totally agreed with Mike. Exact Keyword Phrase=Money Keywords, keywords that people will search for.Once you have found the exact keyword phrase, use it for both on page and off page SEO to increase higher search ranking.

For On Page SEO, put the exact keywords phrase in your Headings ( H1 & H2 tag ), Metatags ( Title tag, Description & Keywords ), on your blog post. Also bold it to let Google know the importance of the keywords.

For Off Page SEO, where we want to build links to increase our traffic to our site and at the same time to increase our search engine ranking. If we use Article Marketing, inside the article at the bottom there is an author box where you can put your link. Put the exact keyword phrase into your link instead of using Click Here, Check This Out etc.

Some people advice varying or mixing the keywords when linking but for myslef, given the chance I’d always use an exact match target for my links. I just think it helps the SEs find and rank my site on my target KW easier.
