There are several areas of thoughts about varying text links but personally I like to do vary my anchor texts but I make sure that majority still uses my main keyword.

nice advice in your post but once again I find what people say and do to get high rankings in the search engines quite amusing.
Why? Because I’ve got high search ranked pages in the 3 majors and at present 4 number 1 pages – and my site is relatively new.
No – I haven’t starting doing anything yet apart from writing new content pages that are unique (in a dog niche).
What no web2.0 social bookmarking, article writing, link exchanges and whatever?
No, just good, honest, helpful content.
Now that must tell a story … mustn’t it?

Hey Mike..awesome article as usual. I always come by and read your blog because you always remind me what I should constantly be doing..but don’t always, haha.

I’ve used your AUKDAT tool quite a few times but mostly for tweaking keyword density so I appreciate you pointing out the fact that we should also be linking to keywords other than our main targets. This is by far the best explanation I’ve read on a technique to specifically implement this. Thanks!

You’re absolutely right about Google being smart…they’re very smart. People who try to trick them are only kidding and hurting themselves. As you said, take some extra time and do it right.

Good advice Mike – Thank You!

Building quality Google friendly links is an art, takes time, effort and skill. The Web is consumed with sites promising to up your site’s PR with backlinks – at a price. (Think however who is really reaping the benefit)

As can be seen by this article and from personal experience Google is however “smart”. We should all steer away from the easy way out – unfortunately there is no easy way if you want to generate traffic and stay in Google’s good books.

In the long run you are better off building links the natural way, to win Google’s favour, achieve and maintain a good solid PR. Stay with what works the natural way and reap the benefits.

Thanks for another great article. It seems the overriding objective is make sure everything you do is “natural” or appears natural in the eyes of Google. They simply dont like artificial attempts to improve rankings so the smart thing to do is to use various link text just like you would expect to occur naturally as people link to your pages.
